The alarm clock went off at 06:30 and I asked Hazel if she wanted to get up to watch the sunrise. She never spoke but her answer was a definite NO! I set off out not really thinking that it would still be dark but found my way to Sunrise Point without falling over the rim. Foolishly I had shorts on and it was freezing! A cloudy sky but a lovely start to a new day.
We had breakfast checked out and set off on the Navajo Trail, it was a far more impressive trail than I had expected. The trail descended 550ft down among The Hoodoos.
We joined The Queens Garden Trail for a more gentle climb back to the rim. At this point the sky turned dark and we could hear thunder so decided to move fast.
We just made it to Bryce Lodge as the heavens opened first rain then large hail stones, 20 minutes later it was white over.
We waited for road conditions to improve then drove 80 miles to Zion and finished the day by the pool. A rather strange day of weather.
I bet you were glad you made the effort to get up early, the photos were great.
