It was a short drive today to Lower Geyser Basin and first stop was the visitors information centre for eruption times of the predictable geysers. A Ranger advised us to head over to Beehive Geyser as it was in a 'window' for erupting. As we waited we watched Old Faithful erupt in the distance, probably the most famous and most predictable geyser.
Shortly after Beehive's indicator (small jet of water) began spurting out water then Beehive erupted. It was a pretty impressive sight, shooting water up to 200ft in the air for about 5 minutes.
We then walked around various small geysers and pools.
Morning Glory Pool, very mysterious.
We patiently waited for Castle Geyser to erupt but due to a minor earth tremor it's eruption time had become unpredictable. Grand Geyser was due to erupt between 5 pm and 7 pm giving us time to jump in the car and visit Upper Geyser Basin and Firestone Drive.
We made it back to the car park at just after 5 pm and watched from a distance as Grand Geyser erupted, we had assumed it wouldn't erupt until a little later. We then hobbled (it had been a hard day on our feet) the mile plus and watched Riverside Geyser erupt. After checking in to the Old Faithful Inn we watched Old Faithful erupt once at sunset and once in the dark before having dinner in Old Faithful Inn historic dining room.
Did you wave at Dave Keighley?
