Looking out for John Wayne.

After another lazy start we left our 10th accommodation (I think) for the 120 mile drive to Monument Valley. It took a little over 2 hours, I enjoy driving these highways as you reach the speed limit set cruise control and just steer to your destination.

Before entering Monument Valley we visited Gouldings museum and trading post. Harry Goulding introduced movie director John Ford to the area who used the location for many westerns.

After paying the $20 fee to enter the Navajo Tribal Park we put our watches forward an hour loosing the hour we gained yesterday. We still had time to hike the Wildcat Trail, a loop around West Mitten Butte. As it was 87F we applied sun cream and carried lots of water as the 3.3 mile trail offers no shade. We really enjoyed the walk especially as we saw very few other people.

We were very lucky to be staying in The View Hotel so we could watch the sunset over Monument Valley from our own balcony. At any moment we expected to see John Wayne ride across the valley floor.
